Statement

Artwork is a visual expression of an artist’s perception and thought process. My work often focuses on human subjects, most often friends and family, framed by the urban environment. I love the city, and see it as a living organism. Through my work, I explore the relationships between myself and others, and the shared connection we all have with the city.

I am drawn to loose, expressive compositions, work that emphasizes emotion, gesture and atmosphere over exact visual replication. I do not find hyper-realistic artwork interesting when it relies solely on technical precision without thoughtful attention to concept, composition, or style. I work primarily with ink, paint, charcoal and photography, sometimes in combination, because their immediacy and accessibility give me the freedom to experiment.

I am constantly photographing the world around me. I draw inspiration from a multitude of sources on a daily basis, including architecture, people, the urban landscape, typography, graffiti, my cats, my friends, and a range of other artists. Regardless of form or media, I try to create work that feels personal, explores human presence, and our relat.
