Portraits are a dialogue between artist and subject. I usually paint people I’m already close to, but every time I paint someone, I feel like I'm getting to know them in a whole new way. In every portrait, I try to illuminate my subject in the way that I see them. My paintings are telling of my relationships with all the people around me, and in series, they form sort of a tapestry of everybody who populates my life.
