My artistic practice began with illustrated portraits—the most direct and accessible way I’ve found to capture people in small, everyday moments. These drawings often feel more intimate than my paintings, especially when created from life. When I work from a photo, it’s always one I’ve taken myself; engaging the subject through the camera is half the process. I aim to capture their gaze in the most natural moment possible, so that when I draw them, they appear fully and authentically themselves.
